August C. Oberster

August C. Oberster, 82, of East Canton, died Monday, June 7 in St. Joseph Care Center. He was born July 29, 1927 in Canton to the late Joseph and Julia (Kuba) Oberster.

Augie was a lifelong member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he served as director and member of the choir for many years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion. Augie was a 1945 graduate of East Canton High School and served on the Osnaburg Local School Board for many years. He was a dedicated supporter of East Canton High School as a member of the Sports Complex Committee.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a medical technician at Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska. He retired from Kauffman Plumbing and Heating in 1999 after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Joseph, John and Robert Oberster; four sisters, Mary Oberster, Julia Andrews, Margaret Tournoux and Betty Frentzel.

He is survived by his wife, Rita (Schell) to whom he was married 57 years; one daughter, Diane Snyder; three sons, Mark, Alan (Melanie) and Eric Oberster; nine grandchildren, Becky, Joe, Zack, Kayla, Amanda, Aaron, Evan, Alexa and Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Sydney, Addyson and Jakeb; two brothers, Richard and Arthur Oberster; and one sister, Donna Dale.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday June 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Benedict Catholic Church with Fr. Benson Okpara and Fr. John Zuzik as celebrants. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
