The Canton South boys basketball team dropped two more games last week, losing to Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 26 by a 63-25 score, and to Minerva on Friday, Jan. 29 by the score of 63-54.

Against Lake, South found themselves behind after one period 15-7, and by halftime, had fallen behind 32-9. The first half was definitely a tough one for the Wildcats. They were 0 of 2 from the free throw line, and just four of 24 from the field for just 17 percent. During the first half, Lake went on a 15 point run. After three, the score was 47-18.

RJ Daniels was the leading scorer with seven points. Bryson Smith and Ethan Gallion added six and five, respectively.

The Wildcats had 22 turnovers and committed 14 fouls.

Against Minerva, Canton South had a much better game, coming up just nine points short.

After one, South led 16-8. The Wildcats scored 16 points in the second, to Minerva's 13, making the halftime score 32-21, South. After three, the score was 45-35, still in Canton South's favor. However, the bottom dropped out on the Wildcats during the final eight minutes of play. Minerva outscored South in the last period 28-9, to get the 63-54 win.

The Wildcats had 17 rebounds, four steals, three assists, committed 23 fouls and had 13 turnovers. Their leading rebounder was Trevon Boone with five. Armond Fontes had two steals.

During the game, the referees called two technicals on the head coach. As a result, according to OHSAA rules, coach Matt Kramer will not be allowed on the bench for the next two games.

The Wildcats drop to 1-12 with the losses.

Up next for the Wildcats is a home game against league opponent Louisville. That game will have been played by press time. South will then travel to Alliance for another league game on Friday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m.
