It's the 'dog' that makes Ruedoggy's a terrific summertime stop
May 20, 2009
By TESA STRASSER The Press-News CANTON TWP. -- Sure the Country Parlor ice cream is tasty and the hand cut French fries, burgers and coneys are yummy, but it is the Ruedoggy that makes the stop at the shop bearing its name worth while. "What is a Ruedoggy?" you may ask. It is an all-beef hot dog on a bed of shredded cheddar cheese topped with Rue's famous secret-recipe Coney sauce, onion and jalapeno slices all on a grilled English bun. Other favorites at the South Cleveland Avenue eatery are the grilled chicken, loaded French fries, floats and hot pretzels. Cindy Hepner and Julie Blemler opened this car hop last spring with the help of daughters Megan Hepner and Alexandrea Blemler. Unfortunately a fryer fire left them closed most of the season, but they are determined to provide a fun summer meeting place for families of the Press-News area in 2009. Stay in your car when you pull up to this Ruedoggy's. Your order will be taken at your car and your food will be delivered to you on a tray that mounts on your window. The mugs are frosted and the atmosphere is colorful and lighthearted. This business is hosting monthly family fun days. Mark you calendar for the second Saturday of each month to stop by and enjoy food specials, a clown doing balloon art, a hot dog eating contest, corn hole, other games and more. Hepner and Blemler have stretched the grass area around the business considerably to accommodate more picnic table and play space. Those family fun dates are June 13, July 11, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12. Ball teams are very welcome. Just wear your uniform to Ruedoggy's after the game and get 10 percent off with or without your team. Hand-dipped and soft serve ice cream are both available. There is a vast variety of flavors and new varieties will be tried throughout the season depending on recommendations and popularity, so let them know what your favorite is. Call 330-605-3079 to place your order ahead of time. Summer hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Comments
