Justin Beck, valedictorian, addresses last graduates of existing SV schools

The Class of 2008, the last class to graduate from the Sandy Valley Schools in the existing buildings, held its commencement program on Sunday, May 25. 2 p.m., in the high school gymnasium.

Christine Wingate, salutatorian, introduced Justin Beck, valedictorian, who addressed the class. "We all know why we are here today, to finally graduate from high school," said Justin. He talked about setting goals and living in the real world-- "a world that is becoming more technology oriented." He concluded by advising his classmates to "Find your goal, find your place in the real world and don't just try to go through the motions for the rest of your life, actually try to do something for society instead of just playing video games all day."

Remarks were heard from David Janofa, superintendent of Sandy Valley Schools. In addition, the high school band performed and a senior video was viewed.

Jay Bednar, assistant principal at the high school, began the introductions of speakers. David Fischer, principal at the high school, gave remarks and presented the class.

The top 10 students in the class of 2008 were Justin Beck, Daniel Burnett, Laura Contos, John Finley VI, Brendan Grossi, Olivia Gruber, Ethan Leyda, Brittany VanDee, Jacob Waller and Christine Wingate.

Class officers were Paige Dagenhard, president; Sabrina Wiliams, vice president; Olivia Gruber, secretary and Cherish Wills, treasurer.

Board members in attendance were Ken Grigsby, president; Mark Crouse, vice president; Dennis Corsi; Chey Schubert and David Sigmund.

The class motto was "Together we have experienced life, separately we will pursue our dreams, and forever our memories will remain."
