To the editor, The village of East Canton

May 14, 2008

To the editor,

The village of East Canton and Osnaburg Township are coming together to fight--and hopefully win, for the community of East Canton. The first "win" is the village and township have been able to agree on this topic.

When village council members held their meeting on Monday, May 5, residents attended to give their views on the annexation of Stark C&D Landfill into the village. The landfill sits in the township, but is at the edge of the village, and there has been an ongoing battle since the first truck load was dropped in that field.

No one wants a "dump" in their backyard. And if you reside in the East Canton area... this is your back yard. And for those folks whose property butts up against the landfill, it is literally in their backyard.

Ok, so what do the good people of East Canton do? They FIGHT! The township has a lawsuit against expansion of the landfill. If you care about your community, then pay attention, join forces, attend meetings, show up in court... FIGHT.

Some people think they can't made a difference. If every resident in the community of East Canton, showed up in that courtroom, at meetings, it will speak louder than any shouts that could be screamed from the roof tops. Don't sit back and say... "We can't win anyway." Stand up and be counted... and you win every time. And yes, our government just might vote against our stand... but be proud you took a stand.

And thanks to our elected officials (village and township) for reaching out to each other in this matter.
