At a special meeting of the Osnaburg Local Board of Education, held Monday afternoon, superintendent Jeffrey Talbert announced his intent to resign.

Talbert said he had been contacted by the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education, which had offered him the opportunity to become their new assistant superintendent.

"Accepting the job was a difficult decision for me to make, because the Osnaburg community, staff and students have been so supportive and welcoming. When I accepted the job at East Canton, I had every intention of remaining here for many years," Talbert commented. "I did not seek or apply for the position of Cleveland Heights-University Heights. However, it is an opportunity to both continue growing as a school administrator and to utilize the skills I've developed both in Canton City and Osnaburg."

Ted Wahl, president of Osnaburg Local School Board, had this to say about the sudden turn of events: "Mr. Talbert has informed the Osnaburg Local School Board of his intent to accept another employment opportunity and therefore leave Osnaburg Local following the end of the school year. While the timing of this decision is not the best, myself and the school board do not wish to impede Mr. Talbert's opportunity to better himself or to further his career. The short time that Mr. Talbert has been here, he has been a wonderful asset to this district and we wish him further success in the future."

Talbert said the effective date of his resignation has not yet been determined. He said he will remain in Osnaburg Local until a replacement is selected and a smooth transaction occurs.

Talbert was hired in April of 2009, to replace Tom Davis, who retired as superintendent of Osnaburg Local Schools. Davis stayed on as girls basketball coach and has since come back to oversee the construction of the new school buildings.

Talbert, who had been a principal at McKinley High School in the Canton City District, stepped into the Osnaburg position in August of 2009. He had also previously served as a teacher, athletic director and football coach at East Canton High School.
