* Hope everyone remembered our veteran's yesterday on Veterans Day.

* Happy 93rd birthday to Olivia Vogt. There will be a party for her at the Foltz Community Center on Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Croft Room from 1-3 p.m. Take this opportunity to see her since she will soon be moving to Arizona.

* The 49th annual Massillon Amateur Radio Club Hamfest 2009 was held on Nov. 1 at the Massillon Boy's and Girl's Club. Vernon and fifth-Lewis Pressler from Clinton.

* It's that time of year again to remind everyone when the school is closed due to inclement weather, the following functions will also be closed: East Canton AARP, East Canton Rotary, book discussion at the East Canton Branch Library, Senior Flex and Senior Social. * How would you like a lunch date with your child or grandchild during their lunch time at school? Lunch is served at the elementary (grades K-3) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and for middle school/high school lunch is from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For those attending lunch at elementary, call 330-488-0392 in the morning to notify the cafeteria you will be attending. Lunch cost is $2.75, which includes milk.

* If you were able to attend the Indian Run Christian Church's barbecue chicken dinner on Oct. 31, then you know how good it was. Those who stayed after did some square dancing and or line dancing or watched those who did. All ages from 4-94 were out their boot-scootin'.

* Where can you enjoy listening to some of the best singers in the Community? Come to St. Paul's United Church of Christ on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. and hear a Singspiration for Little Sandy Creek Ruritans. A love offering will be taken and refreshments to follow. The Ruritans help families who need medical equipment and your donations will help acquire those needed items.

* Come share a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends at Foltz Community Center, on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 4-7 p.m., which is sponsored by Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. The price for adults is $8.50, children age 6-12-$5 and children 5 and under free. For more information, call 330-488-1842.

* Church Cookbooks are the best. "Food for the Soul" Cookbook is being offered for sale for $10 and they will mail it for you for $12.50. Stop at the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church or call 330-488-1842. They make great Christmas gifts.

* Get a jump start with an exercise program before the new year. Senior Flex is open to all seniors, and it is held at Foltz Community Center every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. The second Wednesday of each month exercise classes are not held due to this senior social luncheon.

* The East Canton AARP meeting and luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 11:30 a.m. Thought for the day will be given by Opal Seefong. Speaker Diana Kindler will talk about the history of chocolate. Lunch, which costs $5, will be beef tips and noodles. The program costs $1. Anyone over 50 invited may attend two meetings without paying the $10 yearly dues. You'll most likely see a friend there or you can meet new friends or bring a couple of your friends with you. * Hurry and get your order in for a dozen long-stem roses, which are being sold for $20 by East Canton Rotary members. Order by Friday, Nov. 13, and pick up at the Foltz Center on Friday, Nov. 20, from 8 a.m. to noon. Proceeds from the sale benefit college scholarships and other ongoing community projects.

* Are you a woman who would like to bowl? Well, the Tuesday morning ladies would like to have you. They need one bowler for their team. If you want to bowl in a nonsanctioned league, just come to the East Sparta Recreation Center on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

* The East Sparta United Methodist Church Women are selling apple dumplings, pumpkin, carrot or red velvet cake rolls. Price is $8 for a box of six dumplings or one cake roll. They are selling these until Nov. 15. Orders should be paid for when ordered; however phone orders can be paid for when picked up. * Keep looking at the Grange hall for a replica plane to be put on display. Dr. Moriello will be finishing his restoration project soon and will find a permanent place in Magnolia for the plane he once flew.

* Obviously, by now, you remembered to turn your clocks back on Nov. 1, but did you remember to change your smoke alarm batteries? If you are in need of a smoke detector, contact the Magnolia Fire Department at 330-866-9877.

* A reminder to anyone who placed an order through Angel Food Ministries. Pick Up day is Nov. 14 from 8-9 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (the corner of routes 183 and 800, across from the school complex). Order forms for next month will be available at that time or during the first week of December.

* Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church will offer a free community meal through their Shepherd's Kitchen Ministry Program on Friday, Nov. 20, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Carry-out delivery is available by calling the church at 330-866-9293. Anyone in need is welcome to attend.

* Trinity Lutheran Church will hold evening prayer meetings the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Call the church at 330-866-3035 with prayer requests or bring them with you to the meetings. All faiths are invited to attend and pray together. Carol Herstine leads the meetings.

* Donations of specific food items are being accepted at the Helping Hands Network in order to pack baskets for needy families at Thanksgiving. If you or your church would like to donate, the items needed are instant mashed potatoes, noodles, stuffing and pumpkin. Other useful items are soups, cereal, fruit, small jars of jelly, and other nonperishable foods.

* Magical Night of Giving is Sunday, Nov. 15, at New Towne Mall from 6-10. Tickets are being sold in the office and 100 percent of the ticket sales goes to the Sandy Valley PTO to help fund many activities. Get your tickets today for this great evening of shopping and discounts!

* Anyone can fill a shoe box with toys and personal items for a child in a far away land. Boxes are delivered through Samaritan's Purse along with the gospel in the child's native language. * Congratulations to Jennifer and John (and Dylan) Rodriques on the birth of their new baby boy, Derek Allen. Derek was scheduled to be delivered Wednesday morning, but he decided to come in the middle of the night right after his grandpa, Bob Fallot, was elected as Sandy trustee! Derek weighs 7 pounds and 7 ounces, and is 18 1/4 inches long.

* Congratulations to Kristin and Dennis Shearer on the birth of their daughter.

* The Helping Hands Network at 122 South Main Street will have clothing giveaway and free meals on Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m to noon and 1-3 p.m. Call 330-866-2005 for eligibility requirements.

* The Little Country Church walking club has begun walking at the fellowship hall. They will walk on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m.

* On Tuesday, Nov. 24, the Waynesburg Christmas Committee will host "Sounds of the Seasons." If your church choir or musicians are interested in participating, contact Rae Ann Swinehart at 330-866-2793.

* It will soon be time for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign at Town and Country IGA. If you are willing to volunteer, contact Joe Kerr at 330-866-3539. This is an excellent opportunity to help those who are in need this holiday season.

* Another way to share with others during the holiday season is to fill a shoe box for unfortunate children around the world. You can find more information at samaritanspurse.org. Filled shoe boxes can be dropped at Little Country Church before Nov. 15.
