Running in the Van Wert County meet, the East Canton cross country team finished in 2nd place beside Minster by the score of 64-90. Minster is the eleventh rated division III team in the State. The Hornets managed to beat Stryker and New Bremen-- both rated number 12 in this week's poll. The Hornet Harriers were rated at thirteenth. Sixteen teams and 181 runners ran in the race.

Leading the way was Sophomore Josh Schleappi capturing the individual title with a time of 16:25. Schleappi was patient from the start-- not taking the lead until the two mile mark. Shortly after taking the lead, he found himself in second place as Darrell Randall from Fayette started to pull away. However, in the last 200 meters Schleappi turned on his kick and pulled away to win by four seconds. Schleappi's time of 16:25 now stands as the second fastest time ever run by an East Canton sophomore. He trails only Mike Dorto with a time of 16:12. Steve Miller was next in eleventh place, and he runs better and better each race. Miller ran his personal record of 17:25. That mark propels Miller to one of the top times ever recorded by an East Canton runner.

Also running his best of the season so far was Chase Shrum. Shrum finished 18th and recorded a time of 17:40. Kyle Sharp was next at 22nd and tied his best ever at 17:51. Freshman Cody Reichard continues to improve with each race, running his best ever at 18:12 and a 38th place finish. This was a 16 second improvement from his previous best time. Carl Lucas ran his best of the year with a time of 19:17. Brock Sanders ran his personal best to finish at 19:24. Also competing well was Hayes Poole.

The team next travels to Glen Oak High School for the Stark County Championships. The team races at 11:00.
