CANTON -- "Being a community of life and hope to a despairing world" is the mission statement of LifeHope Community Church.

On Sunday, Nov. 2, the church celebrated 100 years of the Free Methodist Church in Stark County.

The First Free Methodist Church in Canton was organized on Nov. 6, 1908, and was located on Park Avenue S.W. In 1913, the building was moved to the corner of Park Avenue and Navarre Road S.W. where it was remodeled.

In 1946, two lots were purchased at 1014 Harrison Ave. S.W. and a new building was completed in December 1953.

In 2006, the church decided upon a new strategy of ministry and outreach to make a positive impact in the Canton/Massillon community. That new vision led to the merger of what was then the Hills and Dales congregation with the Believer's Fellowship church from Green. The newly merged congregation came together on April 1, 2007, and was renamed as LifeHope Community Church.

On May 25, 2008, the First Free Methodist Church of Canton merged with LifeHope Community Church at 7096 Hills and Dales Rd. N.W., which was formerly the Hills and Dales Free Methodist Church.

At the day of celebration they remembered the past and celebrated the future of their church with former pastors and friends.
