MAGNOLIA -- The Sandy & Beaver Canal Society is preparing a fun-filled weekend with many new activities for Aug. 8-12 in Magnolia Park. The new events will include a Children's Olympics. The age groups for the olympic games will be 4- to 6-year-olds, 7- to 9-year-olds and 10- to 12-year-olds. Each age group will participate in six different categories. Competitors in the Olympics will receive gold, silver and bronze medals as well as ribbons in various events. Winners will be featured in a medal ceremony at the grandstand and will be able to appear in the grand parade on Sunday. Early registration is strongly encouraged and can be made by calling 330-866-9559 or e-mailing r2sons@embarqmail.com. Participants can enter on the day of the event. Other activities, some of which are new this year, will include a cake walk, cornhole tournament, volleyball tournament, car show, karaoke and a show featuring local talent. Anyone who has crafts to sell but does not think they have enough to rent their own table can submit their crafts to the Hometown Craft Store to sell with other crafters. All types of crafts are accepted for a $5 submission fee, and proceeds from the sales will go back to the crafters. The tentative schedule for Canal Days is as follows: * Friday -- car show, karaoke, volleyball tournament, cake walk; * Saturday -- cornhole tournament, volleyball tournament, Children's Olympics, family movie night; * Sunday -- children's games, local talent presentation, old-fashioned baseball game.
