Letter to the Editor:

I would like to inform the Waynesburg area of the newly established Waynesburg Area Historical Society.

The newly-formed group began in early May of this year, electing officers, setting up our mission statement and creating by-laws and at the same time working diligently to get the word out to the community.

Members are excited to announce a site for our new adventure, the former Helping Hands Network building on South Main street has been graciously donated to us, soon it will be empty as Helping Hands has been offered a new home also.

We are very excited to already have some donations of local history that will be available to the public once the building is in display readiness. There is much work to be done, and this will not be an overnight development.

President of the society, Carmie Swihart, has been collecting several items over the years including a row of seats removed from the Mohawk Theatre. Some other donations to- date include footage of the state championship basketball game of 1951 transferred to a DVD for our viewing, Stemples' money and pillboxes and pictures galore.

The group is growing with each meeting and we would love to welcome anyone interested, the young and young at heart are all valued members. To raise some very needed funds we have established a lifetime or annual membership drive. We will also be holding various bake sales and we will have a table at the Magnolia Canal days.

Please join us at our next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 2, 7 p.m., at the Waynesburg Village Hall or contact one of the officers for more information. They are Carmen Swihart - president, Carrie Stevens-Long - vice president, Vicki Bouscher - treasurer and Rae Ann Swinehart - secretary. Please join us at our next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 2, 7 p.m.

Sincerely,

Rae Ann Swinehart

Secretary
