During the East Sparta Homecoming, which will be held July 4-6, several citizens will be honored during festivities of the weekend.

East Sparta Persons of the Year award recipients for 2008 will be Joel Black and Paul "Red" Williams. In addition, Lifetime Achievement Awards are being awarded to Harold Fry and John Cable for all their support and contributions to the village. Plaques will be given to all four recipients at the homecoming.

The four men will be part of the July 4 parade. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 10.

Rides, food, games, raffles and many other activities will take place during the homecoming. Tickets for ride wrist bands are available at Sandy Valley Community Pool or McDade's Grocery Store in East Sparta. Ticket rides are $8 in advance or $12 at the homecoming. Tickets will be redeemable at the ticket booth at the homecoming for a wrist band which will allow rides for the entire evening.

Other events will include a car, truck and motorcycle show on Saturday, July 5, starting with registration at 4 p.m. and the show at 5 p.m. DeLuca from Q92 will be on stage at 8 p.m.

A cornhole tournament also will be held on Sunday. Registration will start at 1 p.m. and the game will begin at 2 p.m. Cash rewards will be given, and the cost to register a team of two is $15.
