Did you take part in the village-wide garage sale, either selling or buying?

Everyone likes a bargain, and folks in the East Canton welcomed folks from all over to take a peek at what bargains they could find throughout the East Canton Village and Township on Saturday, May 17. And lots of treasures were gobbled up on Saturday as someone else was saying "Sure glad I got rid of that old thing."

And you always come away with a human interest story. St. Paul's United Church of Christ, on Church Street, had placed its tables in the parking lot, along with a table set up by the Local TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club. It was 9 a.m., and the customers were looking to see what goodies they might find. The weather was testing out who could withstand the wind and rain. It seemed every couple minutes someone was running after an item that blew across the street. We never gave up; even when the rain drops showed up, then went away, only to return with more force; it was time to move indoors.

You don't need a lot of people to sell items; you need them to set up and take down. So, we only had a couple people on hand to move everything inside, before it got soaked. We had only one male among us, and that was Pastor Jim Painting. He was a our strong arm when we set up, but now we had to rush to beat the rain. Two young men had pulled up and immediately offered to help. Bless them, and we offered them a discount on anything they wanted. They told us, that isn't why they were helping, and I wish I had caught their names. If those two young men read this... please know how much we appreciated your help.

A lady was beaming with joy because she found a cake cover that was just like the one she had for years but the handle was broken, and now, she was holding her "new" cake pan. One lady walked off with a free Christmas tree... and we were happy we didn't have to take it back home. A man pulled up and got out. His dog was in the front seat. Of course the huge dog got all of our attention. He told us, the veterinarian had put his dog "Jenna" on a diet. So, he started giving Jenna low-calorie foods, and she gained five pounds. In case you are wondering-- Jenna weighs 174. Now, that is a huge dog.

I am sure there were many other nice stories around town that took place on Saturday, maybe you'll let us hear about them.
