The Canton South softball team had three games last week-- one game against a non-conference opponent and two against Northeastern Buckeye Conference foes.

On Monday, South shut out the New Philadelphia Quakers at Amos McDannel field 6-0.

Leading the Wildcat offense were Allison Norcia and Katy Newman. The sophomore third baseman and the junior pitcher each homered, doubled and singled, and each had two runs batted in. Junior Val Strasser also had three hits, and senior Joann Schneider had two hits in the victory.

Newman went the distance for the shutout, picked up her third win of the season and allowed five hits.

Tuesday's conference game brought a 7-6 loss to the Minerva Lions.

South fell to an early 5-0 deficit in the third. They would then take the lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a five-run inning. Minerva bounced back and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and won it on an Athena Spinell walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.

Paige Bowles went the distance for Canton South and received her third loss on the year.

On Friday, South lost to conference leader Northwest 2-0. Canton South had just three hits in the defeat.

Paige Bowles pitched a complete game for the second straight time and received her fourth loss on the season. Bowles gave up one run in the first, one in the third and allowed just five hits for the game.

Canton South was to begin tournament action on Tuesday with a home game against West Branch.
