Muriel Joy (Carnahan) Hamel, age 72, passed away at her home in Port Hueneme, Calif., on April 11, 2008.

Born in Akron and raised in East Sparta, Ohio, Muriel planned budgets for the Air Force (Civil Service) while raising three children with her husband of 54 years, Roland (Larry) Hamel. She was a loving mother and an active member of philanthropic organizations such as Beta Sigma Phi.

Muriel is survived by her husband, Larry, her children, Cyndy Walker, Laura Murphy, and Lawrence Hamel; her grandchildren, Jason Murphy, Adam Murphy and Cameron Walker; and her great-grandchild, Ava Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, of Oxnard, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Muriel's memory be made to the National Kidney Foundation: kidney.org or 800-622-9010.
