Dear Editor, I wonder why our elected officials or people running for political office have not talked about putting people back to work or saving fuel. These things could help: 1. Rebates to buy hybrid vehicles made in the USA; 2. Rebates to buy vehicles that run on E-85 fuel that is made in the USA with American made parts; 3. Rebates to buy cars that get at least 33 miles per gallon made with American made parts; 4. Tax breaks for companies that buy new American make machines to put people back to work; 5. Tax breaks for farmers that use methane to generate electric and windmill farms; 6. Tax breaks for trucking industry to buy new trucks, computers, GPS tracking systems to save fuel when dispatching; 7. Housing industry given rebates or tax breaks to make more fuel efficient homes with fuel efficient furnaces, thermal window and doors, solar heat, geothermal heat, high efficiency water heaters, wind generators and/or water conservation features. 8. A major way to put people back to work is to do like Dwight Eisenhower did with the Lincoln Highway. We should build a high speed roads like Germany did, only build it from the east to west coast with a bullet train or tram train. The road could accept double or triple trailers. If we are going to do the excavating, make it for roads and trains so it is done at one time. We could use that 12 billion dollars that we lose in Iraq every week to put our people back to work. The people of the United States don't want $600. They want jobs, not hand-outs. Fred D. Decker Canton Comments
