The family had a keen interest in visiting Greece because Ruth's grandparents emigrated from there in the early 1900s. Georgia Malavite lived near Athens and probably left from the port of Piraeus so that was one of the stops that the Eibel family made. Harry Malavite came from a mountain village on the Peloponnese called Dimitsana.
According to the villagers there, many Malavites still live in that area. Other stops along the trip were to Olympia and the islands of Mykonos and Santorini.
