Sandy Valley's Logan Leichtamer did not show any nerves during his sectional golf round at River Greens.
The freshman shot a 78, and then survived a playoff to secure one of the six individual district-qualifying spots.
Leichtamer carded a 41 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine for a score of 78. Three players battled in a playoff for the final two spots, with Leichtamer moving on.
Junior Jared Eichelberger shot an 81, Bryce Offenberger ended his golf career as a Cardinals with an 82, freshman Keegan Offenberger had an 89, and sophomore Anthony Churilla carded a 106.
Sandy Valley finished two spots away from qualifying as a team.
"I was extremely proud of the team and the round they put together today," stated Head Coach Gary Offenberger. "In a normal year, 330 qualifies us out as a team. Unfortunately, other squads got hot and knocked us out of contention.
"Logan had a great back nine to put us in position to qualify out as a team. I couldn't be happier and prouder of him. He caught a bad break on #26 and double bogeyed, but showed great mental toughenss and finished with a par to put him in position to win the playoff to go to districts."
John Glenn won the team title with a 311. Also moving on to districts are Garaway with a 313, Tusky Valley with a 313, Meadowbrook with a 316, River View with a 322, and Ridgewood with a 323.
Rounding out the top 10 were Cambridge with a 328, Sandy Valley with a 330, Minerva with a 331 and Coshocton with a 337.
The district tournament was scheduled for Oct. 3 at River Greens.
