Lady Hornets overcome Newcomerstown

East Canton had little trouble with Newcomerstown, winning the IVC volleyball match in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 27-25.

Kylee Holland had five kills; Trustyn Holland-Kerekes had 16 receptions and 14 digs; Natalie Spitale had 11 kills, 11 digs and nine receptions; Maggie Geis had 11 receptions, 13 digs, four blocks and four kills; and Audri Nichols had 21 assists.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Hornets lost to Hiland 22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-11.

Spitale had six kills, four blocks, 11 digs and 10 receptions; Holland-Kerekes had 15 receptions and 31 digs; Holland had six kills; Geis had 10 receptions, five blocks and six digs; Laurelyn Schmidt had six blocks; and Madalyn Hill had six digs.

East Canton finished off the week win over Sandy Valley 25-7, 27-25, 25-22.

Holland and Hill each had 11 points, Spitale had 12 kills, Geis had seven kills and 11 digs, Holland-Kerekes had 22 digs, Schmidt had four blocks, and Nichols had 24 assists.

The Lady Hornets were to battle Heartland Christian on Oct. 3 and Ridgewood on Oct. 4, before hosting Tusky Central today (Oct. 6) and Garaway on Monday, Oct. 10. The girls will travel to Malvern this Tuesday, Oct. 11.
