Sandy Valley competed at the Boardman Invitational this past weekend, a mini version of the state meet.
The boys placed 17th out of 33 teams in Division III.
Aleks Rymer paced the way as he finished 52nd out of 326 runners with a time of 18:37.4.
Michael Lewton was 88th in 19:22.4, Nash Monroe was 139th in 20:13.4, Dean Freitag was 141st in 20:19, Isaac Knight was 155th in 20:29.5, Bronson Frank was 161st in 20:34.9, Nick Cappillo was 167th in 20:41.5, Jeffrey Edwards was 179th in 20:57, Austin Owens was 205th in 21:34.2, and Ben Cappillo was 325th in 35:49.8.
Maplewood tallied 61 points to win the boys race, edging St. Thomas (73) by 12 points. Rounding out the top 10 were Smithville with 121, McDonald with 134, Mapleton with 167, South Range with 232, Garaway with 268, Open Door Christian with 311, Canton Central with 347 and Rootstown with 383.
Girls Cross Country
At Boardman, the Lady Cardinals finished 16th out of 34 teams in the Division III race.
Kiannah Sarver had the best showing on the day, placing 69th out of 327 runners with a time of 22:27.6.
Mercedes Sarver was 73rd in 22:42.2, Chloe Thomas was 79th in 22:52.5, Alex Howell was 122nd in 23:40.8, Ruby Behm was 187th in 25:21.6, Emily Miller was 223rd in 26:43.1, Natalie Weber was 240th in 27:25.6, and Maggie Lampe was 254th in 28:05.7.
St. Thomas finished first with 73 points. Rounding out the top 10 were McDonald with 95, Gilmour Academy with 118, Hawken with 158, Tusky Valley with 197, Berkshire with 206, Garaway with 247, Canton Central with 261, Maplewood with 279, and Union City with 283.
The Cardinals will host their own invitational this Saturday, Sept. 24.
