Sandy Valley quarterback Nelson Mozden completed only six passes during Friday night's 33-0 win over Tusky Valley.
But three of those passes went for touchdowns as big plays fueled the Cardinals on their way to a 3-0 start for the second year in a row.
Xavier Sarver got things rolling for Sandy Valley in the first quarter. Just 13 seconds into the game Mozden connected with Sarver on a 59-yard touchdown pass.
Darren Finn notched a big play on special teams just a few minutes later. He returned a punt 61 yards for a touchdown to put the Cardinals up 12-0.
Finn added a 23-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. Mozden and Sarver connected again in the third quarter on a 33-yard touchdown pass to put the game away. Brad Smith later ran for a 12-yard touchdown.
Mozden finished the game with 129 yards through the air and three touchdowns.
Sandy Valley opens conference play this week with a marquee matchup. The Cardinals will travel to Ridgewood.
In week four of last year, Sandy Valley fell to Ridgewood, 21-7 at home. It was the only time the Cardinals lost in the regular season.
The Generals are off to a strong start again at 3-0. They had shutout victories in weeks one and three over Buckeye Trail and River View. They also routed Waynedale 45-10 in week two.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
