East Canton competed in the Tiffin Carnival Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday, with the girls finishing 24th and the boys placing 22nd.

Ashlynn Almasy led the Lady Hornets as she finished 14th out of 373 runners with a time of 19:59.4.

Emily Cain was 95th in 22:16.5, Abby Reichard was 164th in 23:21.5, Mary Reichard was 181st in 23:36.2, Camelya Newell-Owens was 185th in 23:40.8, and Ja'Bria Knight was 196th in 23:59.7.

"The girls raced really well," commented Head Coach Tom Loy. "Almasy and Cain were under the weather and still had strong efforts, while the gap between out third and seventh runners was only 30 seconds. We were trying to cut that gap from almost 2 minutes.

"The girls will continue to work on that as everyone gets healthy. I have said for years, the season starts at Boardman, and the Boardman Invitational is this week."
