"We have experience and are athletic this year," commented East Canton Head Coach Dan Pennell on his 2016-17 volleyball team. "I have good leadership and energy. I also have a lot of options with the lineup that we can change during a match."

Letter winners back for the Lady Hornets are seniors Natalie Spitale, Audriana Nichols, Maggie Geis and Trustyn Holland-Kerekes; and junior Kylee Holland.

Spitale, an outside hitter, was selected to the Inter-Valley Conference and District 4 second teams a year ago.

Nichols will play mostly at center, Geis will be at middle hitter, Holland-Kerekes will play at both outside hitter and defensive specialist, and Holland will see time at outside hitter and setter.

Also being looked upon to contribute are seniors Jenna Cochran at defensive specialist and Regan Stenger at middle hitter; and juniors Madalyn Hill at defensive specialist, Addison Loy at defensive specialist and outside hitter, and Laurelyn Schmidt at middle hitter.

Pennell's projected starting lineup includes Spitale and Holland at outside hitter, Geis and Schmidt at middle hitter, Nichols at setter, and Holland-Kerekes at outside hitter and defensive specialist.

"We should be a team that should be above .500," noted Coach Pennell. "I think the ceiling on this team is wide open.

"We are looking to be in the top four teams in the league. Tuscarawas Central Catholic is at the top of the league and in the state."
