The Malvern football program will be under the direction of first-time Head Coach Michael Kane.

Kane is a graduate of Tusky Valley and earned four varsity letters in football at West Liberty University, where he graduated with a 3.9 grade point average.

The Hornets return 12 lettermen from last year's 4-6 team.

Back are seniors Jerry Brown (5'10, 195) at offensive tackle and middle linebacker, Colton Brothers (6', 315) at offensive guard and nose tackle, and Hunter Mullins 6'2, 175) at wide receiver and safety; juniors Austin Patterson (6', 190) at running back and defensive tackle, Drew Hutchison (5'11, 155) at quarterback and defensive back, Gavyn Potts (5'11, 170) at wide receiver/running back and safety, Jacob Foster (6'2, 176) at wide receiver and defensive end, Jacob Moser (6'1, 160) at wide receiver and cornerback, Jacob Andrews (5'11, 185) at linebacker and safety, Alex Butler (6'1, 221) at offensive line and defensive tackle, and Christian Grimm 5'11, 175) at running back and linebacker; and sophomore Sam Earl (5'10, 195) at offensive and defensive lines.

Also being looked upon to contribute are senior Jacob Bowling (5'10, 165) at wide receiver and safety, junior Charles McClure (5'10, 150) at wide receiver and defensive back, and sophomore Alex Skinner (5'10, 185) at offensive and defensive lines.

Projected starters on offensive has Brown at right tackle, Brothers at right guard, Skinner at center, Earl at left guard, Butler at left tackle, Hutchison behind center, Patterson and Potts in the backfield, and Mullins, Foster and Moser at wide receiver.

Projected defensive starters include Foster and Earl at defensive end, Patterson at defensive tackle, Brothers or Butler at nose tackle, Andrews and Potts at safety, Mullins at free safety, and Brown, Grimm and Moser at linebacker.

"We have great team chemistry, seniors up front, and returning skill players," commented Coach Kane. "We do lack depth. This is my first year and I don't know that much about the IVC, other than Sandy Valley, Ridgewood and Garaway are strong."

Members of Coach Kane's staff are Matt Chiurco, assistant head coach; Cameron Ruff, defensive coordinator; Brett Lee, offensive line; and Dan Westlake, defensive line and running backs.

The Hornets open up the 2016 campaign hosting United Local on Friday, Aug. 26.
