Cardinal boys bowling dropped by St. Thomas

Sandy Valley's boys bowling squad returned to East Sparta Rec. on Jan. 29 as St. Thomas Aquinas came to town for Stark County Bowling Conference action.

The Cardinal's took a 1,637 to 1,466 lead after the individual games and cruised to an overall victory by the final tally of 2,260 to 1,986.

Leading the way for the Cardinals in the individual games was Luke Nicholson. He fired a 198 in game one and a 160 in game two for a team-high series of 358.

Also scoring for Sandy Valley were Aaron Janson (130-224), Tyler Beers (146-144), Ryan Herstine (136-177) and Caleb Deford (157-165).

The Baker System games went three and one in favor of the Cardinals. Sandy Valley won games one (179-118), three (124-117) and four (163-127), while St. Thomas squeaked out game two by the pin total of 158-157.

This was a boys only match as St. Thomas did not field a girls squad.

The Cardinals close the week with an overall record of 5-7 while the girls remain at 2-6 with the off week.

Sandy Valley was to battle Minerva on Feb. 4 and Canton Central on Feb. 6.

The girls will compete at sectionals on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Alliance with the boys coming a week later on Feb. 16 at Wayne Lanes.
