The East Canton Wizards continued their battle through illness and injury last week. They played hard but lost a 57-37 contest to league-leader Ravenna Southeast.
The Wizards were competitive from the outset. They trailed just 10-6 after one but let the lead expand to 28-14 to the veteran Lady Pirates. They enjoyed double digit quarters in stanzas three and four, with 15 and 12 points respectively and lost the second half by just six points.
A balanced scoring column reflected this output. Megan Gothard again led the Wizards with nine points including a trey to go with 11 boards.
Freshman Sarah Griesen scored eight and senior Tara Clapper seven. Classmate Hannah Butler added five markers, juniors Abigail Cook four, Savannah Boyle two and Kelcie Wellendorf two.
Coach Jennifer Martinez commented, "We've been struggling with illnesses and injuries this week. The girls put forth a lot of effort to try to overcome those obstacles, but Southeast is just a really good team. Our post players did a nice job of playing and keeping their post scoring to a minimum."
