The East Canton Wizards dropped three games last week despite a 38-point week from sophomore Megan Gothard. They fell 44-27 at home to Minerva, 48-41 at home to Rootstown, and 54-33 at Strasburg on Saturday afternoon.
The Wizards battled the Lady Lions on even terms for a half and left the floor for intermission tied 15-15. But the wheels came off in the second half and left them with a loss. Hannah Butler led East Canton with 13 points including a trey. Gothard collected 7, with a trey.
The home contest with the Lady Rovers was much closer than their first meeting at Rootstown. Gothard posted a monster game with 17 points and 15 boards. Butler added eight markers.
At Strasburg, the Wizards engaged in a wild slugfest. They trailed 22-5 after a quarter and then bounced back with a 17-9 second quarter. They were again dominated in the third quarter 17-2 and fell following a close final stanza. Gothard included two treys, with her 14 markers. Her 10 rebounds gave her a second double-double for the week. Butler added nine points and sophomore Brooke Solomon got into the score column with six points.
Coach Jennifer Martinez commented, "We are learning that we have to work hard in practics in order to compete with teams. I'm seeing a lot of promising things from my younger players."
