The East Canton boys basketball team traveled to Waterloo last Friday and came home with a 64-54 win. Strong middle quarters paved the way to victory on a night when three scorers reached double figures.
The Hornets trailed 18-14 after one quarter. However, they outscored the Vikings 34-16 over the middle quarters to build a lead that proved insurmountable.
Hayden Miller again led the hosts with 18 points. Cody Reichard scored 17 and Clay Libertore 13. Both Alec Pennell and Bryce Moldovan scored eight points, with Pennell hitting a pair of treys.
Coach Chad Pado was very pleased with the win.
"Really proud of this effort and this win," Pado said. "A conference win on the road is a great win! We were down 4 after the first quarter and battled through the adversity and won. That's something we hadn't done early in the year and will really benefit us going forward. You need to win a game after trailing so we know going forward if we fall behind it's not panic time.
"A great team win," Pado added. "Bryce may have played his best game of the season with 17 rebounds and 7 blocks. Cody was tremendous tonight - 11 assists and only 2 turnovers in 32 minutes. Clay played really efficiently - he scores 13 points on 6 shot attempts and has 7 rebounds. Alec plays all 32 minutes, Hayden leads us scoring, and Drew again gave us great minutes off the bench! I don't want us to be satisfied but this was a great win on the road!"
