Wildcat matmen place fourth

The Canton South Wildcat wrestling team returned to the mats following the Christmas holiday when they traveled to Timken High School to participate in the Canton City Schools Invitational.

Overall, it was a solid weekend for the Cats as they finished the two day event by finishing in fourth place overall in the field. McKinley took first place with 253 total points while other area teams that faired well were Fairless (third, 180), South (fourth, 145), Timken (fifth, 141), Jackson (seventh, 120), Malvern (ninth, 95), Canton Central Catholic (11th, 15) and Aquinas (12th).

No individual stats were available at press-time.

The wrestlers will be back in action this weekend (Jan. 4 and 5) when they travel to Coshocton to participate in the Stichco Classic. Wrestling will begin at 4 p.m. on Jan. 4 and 11 a.m. on Jan. 5. The wrestlers will then travel to West Branch High School to take on the Warriors in an NBC dual on Jan. 10.
