Sandy Valley tops triangular meet; Newman, Cole each get two pins

The Sandy Valley Cardinal wrestlers dominated their two opponents on Dec. 27 as they defeated Indian Valley 38-30 and Edison 59-22.

Senior Sam Groff had a good day once again as he won two major decisions 19-4 against Edison and 10-1 against Indian Valley.

Also gaining wins for the Cards in the Indian Valley match were Brandon Carbenia (113) with a pin at 1:25, Joe Newman (120) pinning his man at 2:13, Eric Cassidy (132) with a 17-4 decision, Hudson Cole (182) with a pin at 3:02 and Tommy Sancic (106) and Jaret Oliver (152) both winning by forfeits.

In the Edison match, wins were obtained by Newman with a pin at 3:37, Cassidy pinned his man at 3:19, Billy Kesling (145) with a pin at 2:20, Oliver (160) pinning his man at 1:12, Cole with a pin at 1:14, Groff with his 19-4 major decision and Andrew Griffen (126), Brett Stoffer (170), Nick Smith (220) and Jake Geiger (285) all winning by forfeit.

The team will next wrestle at the Shadyside Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 9 a.m.
