SV gymnastics begin season at Wooster

The Sandy Valley gymnastics squad, under the direction of Chris Tozzi, began their 2012-2013 season against the Wooster Generals on Dec. 6 at Wooster. The meet did not go as planned as the Generals took the meet by the final tally of 127.05 to 104.325.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Caycee Calkins who placed second on the Vault with a 7.8, eighth on the Bars with a 6.80, eighth on the Beam with a 6.3 and eighth on the Floor Exercise with a 7.0. Those scores gave Calkins a sixth place in the all-around for the competition.

Miranda Waggoner took seventh in the all-around with her best event being the Vault where she scored a 7.0. Also scoring for the Cards was Kelly Offenberger on the Vault (eight place, 6.7), Alyx Fott on the Bars (ninth place, 5.85), Julia McLaughlin on the Bars (tenth place, 5.80) and Rymma McLaughlin on the Beam (seventh place, 6.4).

The girls will travel to Triway High School to take on the Titans before hosting their first meet of the season on Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. Their only other home meet this season will come on Jan. 15, also beginning at 5 p.m.
