Sandy Valley bowling goes 2-0

The Sandy Valley boys bowling team, under the direction of David Deford got off to a great start to the 2012-2013 season by downing Central Catholic on Nov. 27 and St. Thomas Aquinas on Nov. 28.

In the first match of the season, the team downed Central Catholic by the final score of 2,446 to 2,285. Caleb Deford led the Cardinals with scores of 213 and 202 during the two game matches. Following Deford was Aaron Janson (190 and 151), Tyler Beers (150 and 98), Cody Ledger (176 and 190) and Luke Nicholson (185 and 201).

The Cardinals were only ahead by 28 pins (1,756-1,728) entering the Baker System matches but put the match away when it counted to get the win. Sandy Valley took matches one and two of the Baker System matches by the tally of 171-122 in match one and 209-120 in match two. Central Catholic won the third match by the final of 182-176 with the Cardinals taking the final Baker System match by the final of 133-132.

On the following night, the Cardinals were back in action when they took on and dominated St. Thomas Aquinas by the final tally of 2,416-2,127.

Once again leading the way for the Cards in the two game matches was Deford with a 227 in game one and 245 in game two. Rounding out the scoring for the red and grey were Ryan Herstine (147 and 147), Janson (165 and 189), Ledger (185 and 196) and Nicholson (185-215).

St. Thomas Aquinas closed the gap in the Baker System games but could not make the full comeback. The Cards took match one by the final of 178-129 but St. Thomas took the next three by the tallies of 137-123, 143-104 and 134-110.

The bowlers were back in action on Dec. 4 when they hosted the Lions from Minerva. They will then travel to Triway on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Lake on Monday, Dec. 17 before returning home to take on the Massillon Tigers on Dec. 18 for a 4 p.m. start.
