Hornets lose to Southeast, Rootstown

The Hornets fell to Southeast on the road on Tuesday, 58-42.

From the opener, Southeast took the lead and held East Canton to eight points. The Hornets worked to catch up in the final, but their single digit first and third quarters had set them too far back to reach Southeast.

Alec Pennell led the Hornets, with 13 points. Teammate Sam Elseser had 12.

East Canton then traveled to Rootstown on Friday, losing 57-29 to the Rovers. Duke Taylor was the team leader on the night, hitting nine points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Cody Reichard had eight and three steals.

Rootstown proved a powerful opponent from the offset, keeping the Hornets at bay for half their score at the end of the opener. Offensively, EC dropped even further behind in the second, hitting just one bucket. However, they reinforced their defense, holding the Rovers to their lowest scoring quarter of the game.

Unfortunately, Rootstown was able to pick up the pace again after halftime and finish out the contest on top.

The team was to travel to Sandy Valley on Tuesday before hosting Windham on Friday. The tipoff for the varsity game is at 7:30 p.m.
