The first week of soccer play was a good learning experience for the team with the bonus of winning two games.
On Thursday, they traveled to Akron Garfield and after a physical game prevailed 2-0. Scoring for South was Ryan Finley and Andy Fleming with an assist going to Alex Rohr. Andrew Resanovich and Derrick Hill were the keepers.
On Saturday, Tuslaw, with a much improved team from last year, came to South and had a dogfight with the Wildcats coming out on top 3-2. Scoring were Fleming, Austin Snyder and Joey Stelluto and assists going to Micah Mounts and A.J. Wood. Derrick Hill was the keeper with three saves. This was a very exciting game coming down to a free kick with five minutes to go in the game. Snyder, who is not the normal player to take free kicks called off Mounts and hit a rocket into the back corner of the net.
"They start league action this week and I hope the players are ready as the NBC has some very tough soccer teams," the coach said.
