The Sandy Valley boys basketball team's post season ended just as fast as it started. The Cardinals lost the first round of tournament play to Barnesville by the score of 58-33.

Sandy Valley shot only 26 percent from the field, and shot were only three of 21 from the floor in the first half. They sunk 67 percent from the line. The Cardinals had 15 turnovers, committed 23 fouls, had eight assists, 18 rebounds and 12 steals. Nick Williams had three assists. Cody Welker was the leading rebounder with seven as well as the steal leader with four takeaways. Welker had 11 points, and Travis Noble and Zach Mozden each added five points.

About the Cardinals' season, coach Offenberger said, "I knew coming into the year that we were going to have to fight and scratch each game. We had five games that we either got beat in the last seconds or in OT.... with that in mind our record could actually be 11-10 instead of 6-15."

He continues by saying, "I want to thank the seniors for all their hard work and leadership. I'm sure the season didn't pan out as they had wished it would, but I'm sure they will walk away with some great memories of competing and playing with their friends. The underclassmen need to remember the pain in the seniors eyes after the game and make sure it doesn't happen to them next year. They can't take being an underclassmen for granted. They soon will be in those seniors' shoes."

Looking ahead to next year, Offenberger offers these insights. "Next year we have a lot of positions to fill. We have a few letterman coming back, so experience could be an issue. The underclassmen need to put some quality time in on their games and must get in the weight room and get stronger."
