The East Canton girls basketball team improved their record with a win against Garfield, by the score of 57-50.
The Wizards lead 16-11 after the first period. They led 33-25 at halftime. After three, Garfield came back to get within one point, making the score after three 42-41.
The leading scorer for East Canton was Courtney Mitchell with 17. Cassie Sharp and Kati Varian each had 13 points.
Emily Walker grabbed eight rebounds, and Mitchell and Varian had seven and six grabs, respectively.
About the win, head coach Tom Davis said, "It was a solid game, but nothing special, as we shot 54 percent from two point range, but were only one of eight from the three point range, and a terrible 10 of 23 for 44 percent from the line.
Davis continues, "We had 15 turnovers and caused 20 turnovers. We got baskets off of steals by Erin Dunbar, Cassie Sharp, Courtney Mitchell and Kati Varian on the press, and that was the difference in the game."
The Wizards improve to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in league play.
Up next for the Wizards is a home game against Rootstown that will have been played by press time. They will then travel to Southeast on Saturday, Feb. 13, for a 1 p.m. afternoon game.
