Lady Cards lose to Strasburg

The Sandy Valley girls basketball team lost two games last week, the first against Strasburg on Wednesday, Jan. 27, and then against East Canton on Saturday, Jan. 30. Against Strasburg, they lost by a score of 53-24, and by the score of 68-55 to East Canton.

At the end of the first period, the Lady Cards were down 12-7, and had fallen behind by the score of 23-9 by halftime. They scored only two points during the second quarter. During the third quarter they managed just five points, and were trailing by 27 going into the final eight minutes.

The Lady Cardinals shot just 24 percent from the floor and 27 percent from the free throw line against Strasburg. The leading scorer for Sandy Valley was Megan Hunter with eight points. Brittney Tindall added six.

The Lady Cardinals had 35 rebounds, 30 turnovers and 18 fouls. Danielle Grooms had nine rebounds.

The junior varsity also lost to Strasburg by a 35-14 score.

Up next for the Lady Cardinals is a home game against Tuscarawus Central Catholic, which will have been played by press time. They will then travel to Newcomerstown on Saturday, Feb. 6, for a 6 p.m. game.
