The Canton South girls basketball team played just one game last week, a home game against league opponent West Branch. The Lady Cats soundly defeated the Lady Warriors by the score of 52-39.
South jumped out to a 17-11 lead after one quarter, and extended that lead to 35-17 by halftime. Neither team gained an advantage in the third period, as each team scored eight points.
The Lady Wildcats shot just 33 percent from the field, but sunk an impressive 65 percent from the line. Shavon Robinson was the leading scorer with 22 points. Alivia Greene added 12.
Canton South grabbed 34 rebounds, turned the ball over 14 times, were whistled for 20 fouls, had 10 steals and 12 assists. Kati Schneider and Tabatha McKinney were the leading rebounders with 10 and eight, respectively. McKinney also had four steals and six assists.
The Lady Wildcats improve to 15-2 overall, and 9-2 in league play.
Next up for Canton South is a game against Marlington. That game will have been played by press time. The next to last game of regular season play will be a home game against Carrollton on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.
