Area students chosen to attend Girls State

Area high school senior girls were selected to attend Buckeye Girls State at the University of Mount Union with help of local American Legion posts.

More than 900 girls attended the 69th session of the program designed to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of good citizenship.

Post 440 of North Industry along with the Canton South Community Men's Club, the Canton South Junior Guild, the Canton South chapter of AARP and the Canton South Advanced Education Foundation sponsored Molly Kendrick and Madison Zaleski.

American Legion Post 432 sponsored Sandy Valley students Giovana Cline of Waynesburg and Casey Shortt of Magnolia.

American Legion Post 244 sponsored Ashley Rue, Mariah Faverty, Madeline Muller, Camille Hill and Hanna Carbenia all of Waynesburg. From East Sparta, the legion post sponsored Alyssa Sines and Selena Elizabeth Mead. Attending Girls State from Magnolia through Post 244 were Emily Miller and Adrianna Kirkbride. Others who were chosen to attend are Gabrielle Shaw of Canton, Halley DeOrio of Carrollton, Alexandria Howell of Dellroy and Lindsay Vandeborne of Malvern.
