South's Academic Challenge Team competes on Channel Five

The Canton South High School Academic Challenge team recently competed on Cleveland television WEWS channel Five's Academic Challenge program.

The competition will air at 7 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 2. South competed against teams from Lake Catholic and Ravenna High School.

Members of the team competing were seniors Ryan Finley (captain) and Ben Kohring and junior Faryl O'Neil. Additional team members are sophomores Nicholas Beaver and Matthew Poole.

Academic Challenge, hosted by WEWS meteorologist Jason Nicholas, consists of five rounds of questions from math, science, geography, literature, art, sports, mythology and history

South's Academic Challenge team will travel to Columbus in February to tape and compete in the Westfield Insurance Brain Game to air in Columbus in the spring. In addition, they have been invited to participate in the Copley Academic Challenge tournament on Feb. 23, where they will begin the day taking part in the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Challenge.

The team is coached by Kris Marshall, math and gifted intervention instructor at Canton South.
