A new principal has been named at St. James school and pre-school. John Airhart, who has served as principal in the West Branch School system for the past 29 years, will fill the position previously held by Kathy Untch.
Airhart has been a teacher and principal for 39 years. The last 18 years were spent as principal of Knox Elementary School.
"Mr. Airhart began his teaching career in Catholic schools and is enthusiastic about returning to his roots in the Catholic school system," said Fr. Joseph Zamary, pastor of St. James Parish. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to support the tradition of academic excellence and Christian values that are the cornerstones of Catholic schools."
St. James pre-school is accepting enrollment for the 2010-11 school year. Pre-school classes for three- and four-year-olds are held Monday and Wednesday mornings. Pre-kindergarten classes for four- and five-year-olds are held Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings or afternoons. Children must be four years old by Sept. 30.
St. James School also is accepting enrollment for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Kindergarten students must be five years old by Sept. 30.
Student services include latchkey before and after school, federal hot lunch program, remedial tutoring and busing for residents of Malvern, Sandy Valley and Carrollton school districts. Educational opportunities include soccer, Smart Board technology, band instruction in grades four through six, visiting artists, science fair, field trips and music programs.
St. James School offers affordable tuition. All teachers are state certified. The curriculum follows the Ohio Content Standards.
