CANTON -- Stark County Fair Board Treasurer William J. Locker was inducted into the Ohio Fair's Hall of Fame in Columbus during the 88th annual Ohio Fairs convention in January.
Locker was honored by the Ohio Fair Managers Association for his service to the Stark County Agricultural Society, Ohio agriculture and the Ohio fair industry.
In his 34 years as a member of the Stark County Fair Board, Locker has served for 33 years as treasurer. During his tenure, the fair's budget has grown from $120,000 to over $1.2 million. Among his significant achievements, he was responsible for securing loans for improvements to the fair grounds, including a $326,000 office complex. Under his leadership, the Stark County Fair has been financially sound and has not borrowed funds for operating expenses.
He has served on almost every Stark County Fair committee and is now chairman of several committees, including budget, ticket, concession and camping committees. Additionally, he serves on the public relations and advertising, entertainment and program, human resource, speed, building and grounds and junior fair committees.
Locker has been a 4-H advisor for 23 years. He was a member of the 4-H advisory committee for 11 years and a member of the extension advisory committee for 10 years. He resides in East Sparta in Pike Township.
