On Dec. 9, friends and family gathered at the East Sparta United Methodist Church, as Joey Stelluto officially celebrated the achievement of earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

Joey began his trail to Eagle as a Tiger Cub with Pack 47 of Richville while in the first grade. While a Cub Scout, he built birdhouses, won Pinewood Derby Races and went on many exciting field trips and campouts.

After earning his Arrow of Light, he crossed over into Boy Scout Troop 38, chartered by the East Sparta United Methodist Church. There, he held leadership positions such as Bugler, Historian, Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Troop Guide. Joey earned 26 merit badges while a Boy Scout. He holds a Fifth Year Pipestone, a Fifth Year Polar Bear, earned the 50 Miler Afoot/Afloat award, and is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow.

His Eagle Scout Project consisted of installing/replacing signs and installing trash receptacles at the East Sparta Cemetery.

Joey recently capped off his scouting career with a Philmont Scout Ranch trek this past August, with his brother Tanner, father Dan and 15 other friends from troops 38, 203 and 250.

Joey is a 2012 graduate of Canton South High School, earning four letters in soccer and band, and he was on the varsity baseball team for three seasons.

He is now Troop 38's newest assistant Scoutmaster and is attending college at Kent State University, Stark Campus.
