EC Daisy Troop earns recycling badge

Published:

East Canton Girl Scout Daisy Troop 184 decided to do a community project that involved local businesses and organizations including Kress IGA, East Canton Church of God, Foltz Community Center, Bell Store Gas Station and a few others.

The purpose of the project was to bring awareness to local businesses as well as teach the Girl Scouts the importance of recycling. After spending some time discussing recycling and the effect it has on our planet, the girls were eager to begin.

Each girl was given a location which they were to visit and request a collection of a specific type of recycled product, such as cardboard, paper, etc.

The girls then were responsible for picking up the recycled goods and taking them to the local recycling station behind the Osnaburg Township Fire Department on Community Cleanup Day.

The Daisy Troop and leaders remained at the fire station recycling center on Community Cleanup Day to assist residents unloading and carrying recycled items to the appropriate bins. They also offered some Girl Scout cookies and punch as a thank-you for recycling.

Each girl who participated earned her recycling badge. The project was a success and the girls are looking forward to including it in future activities.

Daisy Troop leaders are Spring Dimmerling and Joy Buxton.
