TO BE HELD

The last East Canton joint community Lenten service will be on March 17 at Mapelton United Methodist Church.

LENTEN

SERVICES SET

As part of the Sandy Valley Community Lenten services on March 14 Andrew Riggs will speak at the Waynesburg Presbyterian Church, on March 21, John Maroni will speak at Centenary United Methodist Church, and a community Easter cantata will be held at Magnolia United Methodist Church on March 28.

MT. TABOR IS

COLLECTING

ITEMS FOR HAITI

Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church is collecting items for health kits for Haiti. Items needed are hand towels, wash cloths, large sturdy combs, nail files or finger nail clippers, bath soap, toothbrushes, and adhesive plastic sterile bandages. Call 330-488-1842 for more information.

FISH FRIES AT

PEACE LUTHERAN

On Fridays during Lent, Peace Lutheran Church will hold fish fries from 4-7 p.m. Dinner choices include fried fish or shrimp, baked fish or chicken and fish and shrimp combo meal. Each meal includes a baked potato or fresh, hand-cut French fries, cole slaw, applesauce, roll, dessert and beverage.

ST. JAMES DINNER

On Sunday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. St. James will hold a stuffed pork chops or spaghetti and meat ball dinner. The cost will be $8 for adults and $4 for children. Salad, dessert, roll and drink are included.

MT. TABOR TO HOST

PARAGUAY

MISSIONARY

On Sunday, March 14, Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church will host Sue Givens, as she speaks about her ministry to the people of Paraguay. Givens is an East Canton High School graduate and director of a New Horizons Christian School Asuncion, Paraguay.

OTTERBEIN HOLDS LUNCH

The Otterbein United Methodist Church will hold Lunch after Church, Sunday, March 21 at 11:30 am.

The menu includes pork tenderloin, potatoes and gravy, vegetable, applesauce, rolls, butter, beverage and dessert. The cost for adults is $6; children 6-12, $3 and 5 and under, free. Carryouts will be available.

BRUNCH SET AT

TRINITY

Magnolia Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will have a brunch following the worship service on Sunday, March 21. It is a covered dish brunch and everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite casserole, sweets, etc. for the event.

R.U.T.H. LADIES

TO MEET

The R.U.T.H. Ladies of East Sparta Christian Church will meet on Monday, March 22, for soup and salad. Amy Werner and Karen Wingate will be hostesses, as college goodie boxes are packed.

WIDOW'S MIGHT

TO MEET

On Wednesday, March 31, Widow's Might will meet at the Crossroads Restaurant at 5 p.m. For more information, call 33-866-2552.

AWANA YOUTH

PARTICIPATE

IN GRAND PRIX RACE

Twenty-one boys and girls, ages 3 to 14, members of AWANA at Christ Memorial Church in Robertsville, participated in a Grand Prix car race on Feb. 28, in the downstairs social room, headed by Bill and Cindy Hartenstein.

Each child shaped and designed his or her car from a kit containing a rectangular block of wood, and four axles and wheels. First-, second-, third- and fourth-place trophies were awarded for speed in the following groups: Cubbies, Sparks, and TNT (Trust N Training).

Everyone taking part received a blue ribbon.

Helpers during the evening included Bill Hartenstein, announcer; Ken Flanagan, computer score keeper; Ted Wahl and Isaac Wilson, registration and prechief; Ralph and Kathy Frase and Duane Dourm Jr., starters.

Approximately 60 children, parents, grandparents, relatives and friends attended the event, which opened with singing of "The Star Spangled Banner," with taped music and prayer by Ted Wahl.

Betty Dourm and daughters Cathy Miller and Cindy Hartenstein were in charge of the lunch stand.
