A study by the Search Institute funded by the National Institute of Mental Health reveals that when comparing teens that have been adopted to other teens; * They score higher on indicators of well-being such a school performance, friendships, volunteerism, optimism, self-esteem and low level of anxiety; * They scored lower on indicators of high-risk behaviors such as use of alcohol, depression, vandalism, group fighting, police trouble and weapon use; * They are more likely to reap the benefits of living in a home with two parents; * Children adopted transracially showed no differences in terms of identify formation and self-seteem, attachment to parents, or psychological health.
