Congressman Gibbs held roundtable discussion

U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH) held a roundtable discussion in Ashland with local members of the agricultural community to discuss the issues surrounding immigration reform.

Congressman Gibbs heard input from representatives from the dairy and produce farming industries in Ashland, Holmes, Wayne, Huron, Medina, Knox, Coshocton and Stark Counties.

"The purpose of yesterday's roundtable discussion was to receive input from local constituents and businesspeople involved in the agricultural industry who have a workforce that includes immigrants," said Rep. Gibbs. "It was a very valuable discussion because I was able to hear first-hand the challenges they face with regard to current immigration laws. Many were concerned with being able to keep their workforce in place, given the complexities of immigration law.

"I am pleased that I was able to sit down with these central members of our community and hear their concerns and ideas about this important and very relevant issue," Gibbs continued. "It is clear that reforms need to be put in place that not only enforce current laws, but also ensure that we are able to maintain an able and skillful workforce within the agricultural industry. Farming operations depend on it. We cannot let these important job creators lose out on millions of dollars because of the difficulty in maintaining their workforce."
