SANDY TWP. -- The Mohawk Valley Joint Fire District has agreed to seek American Firefighters Grants for a new truck and turnout gear.
The district last year retained Gatchell Grant Resources to write the grants. The district's bid for the funds was unsuccessful and as part of the agreement, Gatchell will re-submit the grants again this year at no additional cost to the fire district.
Gatchell Grant Resources last fall submitted grants for the fire district for $425,000 grant for vehicle acquisition and $325,000 for safety gear. The fire district paid $1,300 for the grant-writing services in 2015.
Assistant Fire Chief Tom Ely pointed out that the district was on the list to receive the grants but the government ran out of funds.
Approximately $630 million had been appropriated for the federal grants program.
The board also agreed to seek a State Farm Government Disaster Preparedness Grant. It will cost $650 to apply for the grant. If the district is not successful, Gatchell will re-submit an application next year at no charge.
Ely also told the board he has been working on putting the fire district's new website together.
"It is starting to come together," he said.
