The Canton Rotary Club's second annual Oktoberfest is set for Sept. 17 from 2-7 p.m. on Market Square in downtown Canton. Proceeds from Oktoberfest will benefit the Canton Rotary Charitable Fund.

Pike Grange will hold its annual fall family style Swiss steak supper Oct. 1 from 4-7 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-12. Order tickets by Sept. 24. Call 330-484-2973 for more information. Carry out is available, and a limited number of tickets may be sold at the door.

The Sandy Valley Eagles have some upcoming events that will be public invited. They are as follows: fish frys on Sept. 16 and Oct. 7 from 58 p.m., Mexican nights on Sept. 20, Oct. 11 and 26 from 58 p.m., the band Teezer who will perform 9 p.m.midnight., a breakfast buffet on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 811 a.m.

Helping Hands will hold its 17 annual Hike for Hunger on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. You can help in two ways: get sponsors and hike or make a tax-deductible donation that goes directly to supporting their mission to alleviate hunger in the Sandy Valley community. Helping Hands is running short on several popular items that have not been low cost at the food bank. If you would like to help, consider donating canned green beans, canned potatoes, chicken noodle soup, canned peaches and canned mixed fruit.

The Magnolia Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at Taggart's on Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

The Pike Township Historical Society will have a yard sale at its cabin on Thursday, Sept. 22 and Friday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two leather recliners and one electric organ will be available plus many other items.

The Sandy Valley class of 1996 will hold its 20th class reunion on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Canton Brewing Company. Contact Lisa Broucker for more information.

A very special happy 60th anniversary wish goes out to a very special couple, Don & Mary DelCorso. They will be married 60 years on Sept. 22. Happy anniversary Dave & Tawnya Wagner.

Another one of Waynesburg's finest couples recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. John and Dorothy Maxwell took in their special day at the home of their son and duaghter in law, Bryan and Debbie Maxwell. Lots of family and friends joined the happy celebration with an evening filled with great food, conversation,music and dancing.

The flag and Blue Star memorial posts are in place at the Mohawk Community Park. Exciting plans are moving forward. Don't forget the dedication of the marker is on Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. The public is invited but seating is limited. The 45-minute program will include the Sandy Valley band, American Legion Post 432, Save22, Boy Scouts, Troop 157, vocalist John Hawyard, Garden Club dignitaries, clergy and village officials. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.The First Presbyterian Church on East Lisbon Street will host a tour of its historic building from 6:30-7:30 p.m. the same evening. The church was being formed during the same era as the village.
