Fort Laurens' next free speaker series event is Saturday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m.-noon in the Fort Laurens Museum Auditorium.
Presenter Foster Brown will discuss the life of Serge, a French trapper who traveled the rivers in the 1790s. Serge is representative of the legendary voyageurs, or fur traders, of that time period. These 18th century tradesmen enjoyed celebrity status as they transported and sold furs by canoe throughout Canada and the American Midwest.
Brown is a historical interpreter at the Cleveland Metroparks and has spent the last 20 years telling and singing stories about Northeast Ohio's early cultures, history and wildlife.
